NBA roundup: Warriors win the latest clash with the Cavaliers, 126-91

Stephen Curry made five three-pointers and had 20 points while matching his season best with 11 assists in Golden State’s 126-91 rout of the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday in Oakland.

Klay Thompson also made five three-pointers to finish with 26 points while Draymond Green produced his third triple-double of the season with 11 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. He also equaled his career best with five blocked shots — and had another dust-up with LeBron James in the process.

James had 20 points on six-of-18 shooting and eight rebounds. He and Green got into their latest altercation with 6:55 left in the first half and the Warriors leading 52-35. Green collided with James near mid-court when attempting a steal on a fast break, resulting in a flagrant-1 foul on Golden State’s emotional All-Star.

Green reacted by appearing to mock James for flopping.

Kevin Durant added 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks for the Warriors in a much-hyped matchup merely weeks after Golden State squandered a 14-point lead and lost 109-108 in Cleveland on Christmas.

Of course, the Warriors also blew a 3-1 advantage over the Cavs in the NBA Finals last season, one year after beating Cleveland to win the championship.

Kyrie Irving scored 17 points for the Cavaliers in this one, but they committed 15 turnovers to 11 assists and shot only 35.2%.

at Indiana 98, New Orleans 95: Paul George scored 19 points to help the Pacers win for the fifth time in six games. The Pelicans came up just short after All-Star center Anthony Davis (16 points) missed the final 19 minutes after hurting his right hip and left thumb. Team officials said X-rays were negative.

at Washington 120, Portland 101: Bradley Beal scored 25 points and John Wall had 24 as the Wizards, who rely less on the three-pointer than almost any NBA team, were 13 of 23 from beyond the arc in their 12th consecutive home victory. Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 22 points.

at Denver 125, Orlando 112: Nikola Jokic scored a career-high 30 points, Emmanuel Mudiay dished out a career-best 13 assists and the Nuggets hit a season-high 58.4% percent from the floor. Elfrid Payton scored 20 points and had 12 assists for the Magic, 1-4 on a six-game trip. Up 69-63 early in the third quarter, the Nuggets pulled away with a 16-2 run. The Magic cut into a 22-point deficit, but Kenneth Faried put the game way with an emphatic dunk with 1:28 remaining.

Atlanta 108, at New York 107: Dennis Schroder (28 points) made the go-ahead three-pointer with 22 seconds left and the Hawks won for the ninth time in 10 games.The Knicks had three attempts at a desperately needed victory after, but Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah all were unable to convert before time expired. Anthony scored 30.

at Boston 108, Charlotte 98: Isaiah Thomas scored 17 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter, and the surging Celtics earned their ninth victory in 11 games. It was Thomas’ 25th straight game with 20 or more points. Kemba Walker scored 24 points for the Hornets, who lost their fifth straight — all on the road. Thomas scored 13 straight points, pushing Boston ahead 93-83 with his 3-pointer from the left wing with 7 1/2 minutes left.

Philadelphia 113, at Milwaukee 104: Joel Embiid scored 12 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and the 76ers won for the fourth time in five games. Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo each scored 23 points for the Bucks. Philadelphia used a 12-2 run to take control of the game midway through the fourth quarter.
