Tennessee Titans safety Johnathan Cyprien will sit out the season because of a left knee injury, and coach Mike Vrabel said that veteran Eric Reid was among the safeties the Titans want to look at as a potential replacement.

Cyprien left practice Wednesday after suffering the injury during a noncontact play. He grabbed at his knee before walking to the locker room with trainers, waiving off a cart. Cyprien, who signed a four-year deal last season, started 10 games after dealing with an injured hamstring.

“Devastated to tell you that after checking him out,” Vrabel said Thursday, “he tore his ACL and he’ll be out for a year, which is tough for me as a new head coach to watch guys work hard, extremely hard, in the offseason and care about the team and play hard and do everything that we’ve asked them to do and then not get a chance to experience the NFL season this year.”

The Titans have Kendrick Lewis, 30 and with his fourth NFL team, and Demontre Hurst among the other options at safety on the roster. Reid and Kenny Vaccaro, who played the last five seasons with the New Orleans Saints, are among veteran safeties unsigned.

Vrabel said that the Titans have looked at Reid.

Reid, one of the players who kneeled during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality, has been out of work since playing out his contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

Reid, 26, said in March that he does not plan to protest during the anthem this season if signed by a team. He filed a claim this spring arguing that he was unsigned as a result of collusion by NFL owners, and the NFL Players Assn. filed a non-injury grievance on Reid’s behalf in May.

Ravens win Hall of Fame game

First-round draft pick and 2016 Heisman Trphy winner Lamar Jackson completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to fellow first-rounder Hayden Hurst in the second half of the Baltimore Ravens’ 17-16 victory over the Chicago Bears in the Hall of Fame game at Canton, Ohio.

The Bears put together their best drive in the final minutes of the exhibition season opener and journeyman Tyler Bray connected with Tanner Gentry for a 10-yard touchdown pass to cap a 92-yard march. But a two-point conversion pass fell incomplete.

Holdout safety Earl Thomas reiterated that he wants to be traded if the Seattle Seahawks aren’t willing to offer him a contract extension. Thomas explained the reasoning behind his ongoing holdout in a long post on the Players’ Tribune. He skipped Seattle’s entire offseason program and sat out the first week of training camp. Thomas said his holdout is entirely based around securing his long-term future with his current contract set to expire at the conclusion of the 2018 season. ...

Cleveland Browns starting right guard Kevin Zeitler will be sidelined for several weeks of training camp because of a calf injury.
