Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer is doubtful for Sunday’s AFC South showdown against Indianapolis after suffering his second concussion in less than a month.

Coach Bill O’Brien said Monday that Hoyer is following the league’s concussion protocol, and he is also dealing with a strained neck and a wrist problem after being sacked five times in a 27-6 loss to New England. “He took a beating,” O’Brien said.

Hoyer missed a game earlier this season after sustaining a concussion on Nov. 16 against the Bengals.

“Whenever you suffer a concussion like that, multiple concussions within a five- or six-week span, obviously the player himself is concerned about that,” O’Brien said. “And nobody’s more concerned than I am because of my relationship with Brian and his family.”

Browns lose Haden

Cleveland placed star cornerback Joe Haden on season-ending injured reserve because of concussions.

Haden, a Pro Bowl selection the previous two years who signed a five-year, $68-million contract before last season, appeared in only five games this year. He’s been sidelined since sustaining his second concussion on Nov. 1 against Arizona when he was accidentally kicked in the head as he tried to make a tackle.

He received his first concussion on Oct. 11.
