Rams’ Johnson, Kendricks and Saffold will need to deliver against the Jets

RAMS WHO MUST DELIVER...

Cornerback Trumaine Johnson. The Rams defense has been good, but it is at its best when creating turnovers. Johnson, who intercepted seven passes in 2015, played well last week in his return from an ankle injury but the defense did not come up with a turnover. The Rams need Johnson to force fumbles, intercept passes or deliver hits that result in interceptions for teammates

Tight end Lance Kendricks. He has seven receptions in each of the last two games, so it’s clear that quarterback Case Keenum has confidence in the veteran. But he dropped a certain touchdown pass at the goal line against the Carolina last week. He must come through when those opportunities arise.

Offensive lineman Rodger Saffold. After last week’s loss against Carolina, Saffold said “enough is enough” and that the Rams needed to start running effectively. They also need to protect the quarterback after giving up four sacks. As the veteran playing next to left tackle Greg Robinson, Saffold needs to step up.

N.Y. JETS TO WATCH OUT FOR…

Defensive lineman Leonard Williams. The former USC star leads the Jets with six sacks. At 6 feet 5 and 302 pounds, he has the size and speed to overpower the interior of a Rams offensive line that gave up four sacks last week against Carolina. Williams could be a bigger factor if veterans Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson play motivated after being discplined last week for tardiness.

Running back Matt Forte. He’s not going to wow anyone with breakaway speed, but the veteran showed during his eight seasons with the Chicago Bears that he can be effective as a runner and receiver. He has rushed for seven touchdowns and has caught 21 passes, one for a touchdown.

Receiver Brandon Marshall. The six-time Pro Bowl selection has a team-best 40 catches, but only two for touchdowns. Last season he scored 14 touchdowns. At some point, the 11-year pro is going to break out with a big performance. The Rams would no doubt prefer that it happens later in the season.
