NC State’s RB Thornton arrested after moped accident

N.C. State running back Shadrach Thornton was arrested after a moped accident on Tuesday night.tmpplchld Thornton was charged with failure to stop and render aid and failure to provide information, both misdemeanors, after his moped hit a pedestrian in Raleigh, N.C., around 9:30 p.m. EDT.tmpplchld Thornton was also charged with operating a motor vehicle on a sidewalk and for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.tmpplchld Thornton, the team’s leading rusher in each of the past three years, practiced on Wednesday. He has been arrested two previous times and been suspended three different times in his football career.tmpplchld “I haven’t had a chance to deal with it yet,” N.C. State coach Dave Doeren said on Wednesday. “As soon as I have all the information, I’ll make a statement on what I’m going to do.”tmpplchld Thornton was riding his moped on the sidewalk of the southbound lanes on Avent Ferry Road across from the Mission Valley Shopping Center when he struck Jimmie Woodard, 23, of Raleigh. Woodard suffered lacerations in his lip and needed stitches, his mother, Sharon, said on Wednesday.tmpplchld Woodard waiting for the bus when he was hit by Thornton on the sidewalk. Sharon Woodard said her son called her immediately after the accident and she took him to the hospital for treatment.tmpplchld “I’m just grateful it wasn’t worse than it could have been,” Sharon Woodard said.tmpplchld Thornton, 22, was arrested at his apartment after he failed to provide information about his license and vehicle registration to Woodard, according to the court documents.tmpplchld This is not Thornton’s first time in legal trouble. He missed the 2013 season opener after a misdemeanor assault on a female charge. He received deferred prosecution for that incident from the Wake County courts. Thornton had a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in Dec. 2013 that was later dismissed.tmpplchld Thornton missed the first two games of this season for breaking an unspecified team rule, unrelated to a legal issue.tmpplchld The senior from Hinesville, Ga. led the team with 907 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns last season. He had 111 yards and two touchdowns in the Wolfpack’s 63-13 win at South Alabama last Saturday. He has 203 rushing yards in two games this season.tmpplchld Thornton is scheduled to be in a Wake County court on Nov. 5 for the most recent charges.
