Chris Wondolowski lifts Earthquakes past Chivas USA

SAN JOSE — Chris Wondolowski scored twice to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-0 victory over Chivas USA in a Major League Soccer game Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Wondolowski, the reigning league most valuable player, gave the Earthquakes the lead just before halftime and iced the game with another score in the 87th minute.

Chivas USA almost tied the score in the 58th minute when Julio Morales found the net, but the 19-year-old on loan from Chivas of Guadalajara was ruled offsides.

Chivas, which has lost two in a row, returns home Aug. 11 to face the Colorado Rapids.
