Caroline Wozniacki tweets about breakup with Rory McIlroy

A day after golfer Rory McIlroy announced that he was breaking off his engagement to Caroline Wozniacki, the Danish tennis star offered her response on Twitter.

“It’s a hard time for me right now,” she wrote.

The sports power couple had just sent out wedding invitations when McIlroy broke the news of their split. They had been dating since 2011.

On Thursday, Wozniacki thanked her followers for “all the sweet messages” and added: “I support Liverpool right now because I know I’ll never walk alone.”

“You’ll Never Walk Alone” is the anthem for the Liverpool soccer club of the Britain’s Premier League. McIlroy is a fan of rival Manchester United.

In his previous statement, issued Wednesday before the start of the BMW PGA Championship in Britain, the golfer said: “The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.”
