Clippers’ J.J. Redick to be on the move as a shooter

Share

When J.J. Redick takes the court tonight for the first time this exhibition season, look for the Clippers shooting guard to be constantly on the move against the Utah Jazz at Staples Center.

It may not be as fluid as the Clippers would like because Redick and all-star point guard Chris Paul haven’t been able to work together as a pair a whole lot.

Redick just returned to practice Monday and Tuesday after missing two weeks because of a partial tear of his left quad muscle that was suffered during the Clippers’ training camp in La Jolla.

“That would have taken time, honestly, even if he had been healthy,” Coach Doc Rivers said about the relationship between Redick and Paul. “Obviously, it sets us back quite a bit. Shooter-passer relationship is probably one of the underrated things. It’s really important. When a great passer gets the exact timing of a great shooter, it makes the shooter even better.”

Still, look for Redick to come off plenty of screens against the Jazz, and for him to be running all over the court -- well, at least as much as his conditioning will allow.

Redick, acquired by the Clippers from Milwaukee in a three-team sign-and-trade, averaged 14.1 points last season playing with the Orlando Magic and the Bucks.
