Columbus Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky will not be fined or suspended following his Sunday night ejection for a big hit on Ducks veteran center Saku Koivu.

Columbus General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen told the Columbus Dispatch on Monday that NHL Player Safety informed him there would be no in-person hearing for Dubinsky, who was given a five-minute major penalty for interference and a game misconduct for the second-period hit on Koivu.

Koivu had to be helped from the ice and didn’t return. Dubinsky was ejected.

Also Monday, Koivu traveled back to Anaheim for follow-up medical testing and evaluation as part of the NHL concussion protocol.

“I spoke to him a little bit after he was hit, but how he is is something that’s personal,” Ducks center Nick Bonino said Monday.

Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau said Monday it’s conceivable Koivu could rejoin the team before its road trip ends Nov. 4 at the New York Rangers.

Ducks forward Dustin Penner, who was knocked out by Colorado’s Ryan Garbutt Oct. 20, returned to the bench Sunday with the possibility of playing Tuesday night at Philadelphia. Garbutt was suspended five games.
