The intrigue surrounding Florida State signee Matthew Thomas and USC has apparently ended.

A day after his father said Thomas wanted a release from his national letter of intent so he could transfer to USC, Thomas on Tuesday released a statement to Warchant.com that said he would remain with the Seminoles.

Thomas, a linebacker, attended high school in Miami.

“After meeting with coach [Jimbo] Fisher and his staff and gathering all the information I have decided to honor my commitment to Florida State,” Thomas said in the statement. “I also want to be close to my family and I want be part of what they are building at Florida State. I’m looking forward to winning games at Florida State and building towards my future.”

In their story about Thomas, Gene Williams and D.C. Reeves of Warchant.com said that all members of the Seminoles’ freshman class are expected to report by Saturday.

If Thomas had left Florida State without a full release from his letter of intent, he would have had to sit out the 2013 season.
