Tennis star Eugenie Bouchard reveals dream date: Justin Bieber

There are some odd questions in post-match interviews at a tennis tournament, but this one was rather cringeworthy.

Nineteen-year-old Eugenie Bouchard, not long after reaching the final four at the Australian Open with an impressive three-set win over Ana Ivanovic, was asked whom she would date if she had the opportunity.

The Canadian tennis star was clearly embarrassed and eventually answered, saying Justin Bieber.

(The sound you heard next were the breaking hearts of “Genie’s Army,” a group of loyal fans closely following her progress at Melbourne Park).

Wondering if Rafael Nadal gets that question after his next match? Doubt it.

Either way, it was an amusing moment that ignited Twitter-land in a major way on Monday night. Not that Justin Bieber needs any more publicity.

Her answer did not go over well, but why quibble with the choice of a teenager? Hey, we all have our musical ghosts to bear ... just don’t tell anyone about the Phil Collins albums.
