Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence reportedly traded to Giants
Hunter Pence looks to be following former Philadelphia Phillies teammate Shane Victorino to the National League West.
Moments after the Dodgers’ trade for Victorino was announced Tuesday morning, USA Today reported that Pence will be on the move to the San Francisco Giants, citing a anonymous source.
The Phillies will receive pitching prospect Tommy Joseph in exchange for Pence, according to KPIX-TV in San Francisco, after already receiving a pair of pitchers from the Dodgers — Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin — in the Victorino deal.
KPIX reported the Pence-for-Joseph deal on Sunday, only to receive a text message from Giants Vice President Bobby Evans saying there’s “no truth to the rumor.”
Pence is hitting .271 with 59 RBIs and 17 home runs this season. He is making $10.4 million this year and is due to become a free agent after the 2013 season.
The Phillies, in the midst of a disastrous season, may not be done dealing away pieces from their five-time defending NL East champion team before Tuesday’s 1 p.m. PT trade deadline.
