Pole-sitter Jeff Gordon tops final practice for NASCAR Michigan race

Jeff Gordon topped the final practice Saturday for the Pure Michigan 400, one day after winning the pole position for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

Gordon, seeking his third win of the season, led the practice with a lap of 200.156 mph on the two-mile Michigan International Speedway oval in his No. 24 Chevrolet prepared by Hendrick Motorsports.

Rookie Kyle Larson was second at 199.695 mph and Brad Keselowski was third with a lap of 199.137 mph.

During an earlier practice Saturday morning, driver Ryan Truex crashed in his No. 83 Toyota and was taken to a local hospital.

Truex suffered a concussion but CT scans of his head, neck, chest and abdomen all were negative, his team BK Racing said, adding that J.J. Yeley would replace Truex in Sunday’s race.

Also Saturday, Johnny Sauter won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Michigan International. Matt Crafton was second and Ron Hornaday Jr. finished third.
