Peyton Manning’s issues extend beyond the Broncos’ scoreboard operator

Peyton Manning apparently likes to be in charge of the hijinks.

You know, like that not-so-spontaneous keep-away prank the Denver Broncos quarterback instructed his receivers play on him Sunday after his NFL record 509th touchdown pass.

So obviously Manning wasn't too thrilled Thursday night when the scoreboard operator at Mile High Stadium decided -- on his own -- to have some fun with the crowd during the Broncos' 35-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Late in the fourth quarter the crowd erupted when the video board showed Denver cornerback Aqib Talib dancing on the sideline. The Broncos were on offense at the time, and Manning could be seen furiously trying to get everyone to pipe down.

Manning was asked about the incident after the game. He immediately threw the poor scoreboard operator under the bus.

"I have no problem with our fans," Manning said. "Our fans are great. I've got a problem with our scoreboard operator. I'm going to have a little talk with him. I'm not sure what he's doing."

The control freak continued: "He's playing music, showing players dancing and getting the crowd fired up when we had the ball. I don't think we should be doing that."

What an ego. Heaven forbid we miss his umpteenth completion for yet another NFL record. Yawn.

Oh, and maybe it's a tad hard to function on offense when you can't hear yourself think.

And Manning wasn't done with the scoreboard operator either. Mr. Superstar also took issue with a stunt that involved showing Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers on the sideline (massive boos), alternating back and forth with shots of Manning (massive cheers).

"I don't think we should be showing their quarterback on the sideline. I thought that was kind of disrespectful," said Manning, clearly upset about having to share screen time with anyone else on a night when he threw three more touchdown passes to bring his record total up to 513.

Oh, and maybe it's kind of uncool to mercilessly boo a guy who is doing nothing but trying to lead his team in a losing effort against your team.

Rivers, though, had the right attitude about the whole ordeal.

"I really don't know how to respond to that, other than if you had told me when I was 10 years old they would show me in front of 75,000 people and I'd get booed and Peyton Manning in the same clip and get cheered, I'd say that's pretty awesome," he said after the game.

Hear that, Peyton? Pretty awesome ... oh, wait, he's still going off about you know who.

"Our fans are great, our fans are loud," Manning said. "Our scoreboard operator, it wasn't his best night."

Sigh. Never mind.
