Report: Tiger Woods suffering from a bulging disk

While Adam Scott continued to hold the lead midway through the second round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Fla., on Friday, much of the talk centered on the absent Tiger Woods.

According to a Golfweek report, Woods has been diagnosed with a bulging disk that will not require surgery.

Earlier this week, he called to inform Palmer that he was withdrawing from the tournament at Bay Hill, where he has won eight times in his career.

“I think he’s listening to the doctors,” Palmer said on Wednesday. “And he mentioned that they’re saying that he needs to give it a bit of a rest and see if he can work it out.”

Woods has battled back problems since last summer. The Golfweek report noted that things could have been worse -- the disk could have been herniated.

It is unclear if Woods will be able to recover in time for the Masters.

At Bay Hill, Scott was 1-under through his first six holes. After Thursday’s 62, he stood at 11-under, four strokes ahead of Chesson Hadley, J.B. Holmes and Francesco Molinari.
