Sex assault complaint against Florida Gators QB Treon Harris withdrawn
Florida Gators quarterback Treon Harris will be allowed to rejoin the team after a student withdrew sexual battery allegations filed earlier this week, university officials said.
Harris, a freshman backup, had been accused of sexually assaulting a female student on Sunday, according to school officials.
The student withdrew her complaint on Friday, according to University of Florida spokeswoman Janine Sikes.
“This means she is not pursuing criminal charges against him at this time but maintains the right to do so in the future,” Sikes said.
The school is not taking any additional action against Harris, and a police report will be made public at a later date, Sikes said.
Head Coach Will Muschamp issued a statement saying Harris had been reinstated to the team, but will not play in Saturday’s contest against Louisiana State University.
“This has been a learning experience for everyone involved,” Muschamp said. “Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates.”
