Reporting from MASON, Mich. — A former USA Gymnastics team doctor has been charged in Michigan with first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child under 13.
Online court records in Ingham County show three charges were filed Monday against Dr. Larry Nassar of Holt, Mich. The alleged incidents occurred in 1998. The records don’t indicate whether the charges involve one victim or more.
A message seeking comment was left for Nassar’s attorney.
Nassar has been under scrutiny this year after two gymnasts, including a member of the 2000 U.S. women’s Olympic team, accused him of sexual abuse. A lawsuit by one is pending in California.
Nassar has denied wrongdoing. Michigan State University fired him in September. USA Gymnastics cut ties in 2015.
Michigan Atty. Gen. Bill Schuette plans to talk to reporters Tuesday.
