USC football: Trojans begin preparations for Notre Dame

Ed Orgeron, who got his first victory as USC’s interim coach last week, will seek his first road victory with the Trojans on Saturday at Notre Dame.

USC improved to 4-2 by defeating Arizona, 38-31, last Thursday at the Coliseum. The Trojans were scheduled to resume practice Sunday.

The Trojans’ offense appeared more diverse than it had under Lane Kiffin as offensive coordinator Clay Helton utilized five tailbacks and quarterback Cody Kessler completed play-action passes for big gains.

USC’s secondary, however, remains an issue after giving up four touchdown passes, including two in the fourth quarter.

Notre Dame is 4-2 after defeating Arizona State, 37-34, on Oct. 5 at Arlington, Texas.

The week before, Arizona State defeated USC, 62-41, in Kiffin’s final game as USC’s coach.
