Watch Justin Cobbs make the game-winning shot against Arizona [video]

California point guard Justin Cobbs, who missed a shot Thursday with a chance to beat Arizona State, knocked down a last-second, fade-away jump shot on Saturday night to help the Golden Bears upset the No. 1-ranked Arizona Wildcats, 60-58, in a Pac-12 Conference game.

As the video above shows, Cobbs used a screen at the top of the three-point area to drive to the left side of the lane, where a defender cut him off and forced a step-back jumper that he hit.

Fans stormed the court, but there was still 0.9 seconds left and Arizona (21-1, 8-1 in conference) had one more chance. A desperation pass into the frontcourt was deflected to preserve the win for the Golden Bears (15-7, 6-3), who had never beaten a top-ranked team in Berkeley. California is now 3-24 against teams ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll.

“Honestly I was getting claustrophobic,” Cobbs said afterward about the bedlam on the court. “I couldn’t breathe.”

Cobbs, a senior from Torrance Bishop Montgomery High, had 19 points and seven assists to lead the Golden Bears. David Kravish contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds while Richard Solomon, a former high school teammate of Cobbs, scored 12 points.

Kaleb Tarczewski scored a career-high 18 points and had six rebounds while T.J. McConnell added 13 points for the Wildcats, who shot only 32.3% from the field compared with California’s 44.6%.
