WWE ‘Night of Champions’ results: John Cena defeats Brock Lesnar

Share

WWE held its annual “Night of Champions” event on Sunday, with many fans wondering just how they would book the rematch between Brock Lesnar and John Cena after Lesnar’s destruction of Cena at “SummerSlam.” Plus, with Roman Reigns injured, how would they replace his scheduled match against Seth Rollins? Read on for the results.

THE USO BROTHERS VS. GOLDUST & STARDUST FOR THE TAG TEAM TITLES

Goldust and Stardust won the titles when Jey Uso came off the top rope with a splash onto Stardust, who got his knees up in time and then pinned Jey with a schoolboy while holding the trunks.

SHEAMUS VS. CESARO FOR THE UNITED STATES TITLE

Painful match, as both guys really gave each other some stiff blows (and seemed to enjoy every minute of it). Sheamus retained the title with a Brogue kick.

DOLPH ZIGGLER VS. THE MIZ FOR THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE

Miz regained the title with a rolling reverse cradle.

SETH ROLLINS VS. ROMAN REIGNS

Rollins came out and made fun of Reigns, saying that emergency surgery is a poor excuse for missing a match. He demanded that the referee count to 10 and then declare him the winner, which he did. Rollins then issued an open challenge to anyone in the back. They cut to backstage, where a taxi arrived. Out stepped Dean Ambrose to a large pop from the crowd.

SETH ROLLINS VS. DEAN AMBROSE

The match never started, as Rollins and Ambrose brawled into the stands until security arrived and dragged Ambrose away.

MARK HENRY VS. RUSEV

Rusev won when Henry tapped out to the Accolade.

RANDY ORTON VS. CHRIS JERICHO

Orton won when he caught Jericho with an RKO while Jericho was leaping off the top rope. This is expected to be Jericho’s last appearance with the company for a while.

PAIGE VS. A.J. LEE VS. NIKKI BELLA FOR THE DIVAS TITLE

Lee won the title when she used the black widow on Paige, who tapped out.

BROCK LESNAR VS. JOHN CENA FOR THE WWE WORLD TITLE

Cena hit three Attitude Adjustments on Lesnar, but couldn’t put him away. Finish came when Seth Rollins ran into the ring and hit Cena with his “Money in the Bank” briefcase. He then gave Lesnar a curb stomp and told the ref he was cashing in the briefcase for an immediate title shot. Cena then chased Rollins from the ring. The bell never rang, so Rollins keeps the briefcase. Cena was declared the winner by DQ, so Lesnar retains the title. Looks like they are setting up Lesnar versus Cena again at “Hell in a Cell” next month.
