Yankees’ Brett Gardner is hit in head by ball that fan throws onto field
New York Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner took everything in stride Sunday afternoon when he was hit in the head by a ball that a spectator threw back onto field after Toronto’s Jose Bautista hit a home run.
“I’ve got a hard head, so it’s all good,” Gardner said after Toronto’s 2-0 victory, which completed a weekend sweep at Yankee Stadium. The Blue Jays moved to within one game of first-place New York in the American League East.
“It’s over with,” Gardner said. “Glad I didn’t get hurt.”
As you can see in the video above, the ball comes flying out of the stands over the State Farm sign, strikes Gardner in the back of the head and bounces to his right.
Gardner bows his head forward, but hardly has a reaction after that.
“I just wore it. Didn’t even turn around,” he said. “It wasn’t like it was coming from the second row. It was a long ways away.”
