Robbie Lawler to defend title against Carlos Condit at UFC 195
Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler’s thumb injury will heal in time for him to make his second title defense Jan. 2 when he meets Carlos Condit at UFC 195 in Las Vegas, the UFC announced Thursday.
Lawler injured his thumb last week, prompting the UFC to shift Ronda Rousey’s women’s bantamweight title defense against former pro boxer Holly Holm to UFC 193 on Nov. 14 in Melbourne, Australia, where Lawler-Condit was to be staged.
Lawler (26-10) last fought during UFC 189 in July, when he defeated Rory MacDonald to retain the welterweight title.
The 33-year-old Lawler claimed the welterweight belt at UFC 181 last December with a split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks.
Condit (30-8) is coming off a second-round technical knockout of Thiago Alves during UFC Fight Night 67 on May 31.
The 31-year-old Condit is a former UFC interim welterweight titleholder. He lost a chance to keep the belt when he lost a unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154 in 2012.
