USC’s Marc Tyler awaits possible disciplinary measures

USC tailback Marc Tyler, the Trojans’ leading rusher last season, is awaiting possible disciplinary action for his alleged role in two off-the-field incidents, Tyler confirmed Friday.

Tyler, a fifth-year senior, recently appeared at a hearing before USC’s Office of Student Judicial Affairs in regard to the April incidents, one in which he allegedly spit on a female student while intoxicated and another in which he allegedly inappropriately touched another female student at a bar near campus.

Two people familiar with the situation said Tyler, 22, acknowledged the first incident during his hearing but disputed the second. The people requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly.

“It would not be appropriate for me to comment while I await the result of the Student Affairs hearing except to say that I regret my actions, I have apologized to all parties and I have sought counseling both within and outside the university,” Tyler said in a statement.

Earlier Friday, Tyler said he was absent from the Trojans’ first players-only workout on Thursday because he was attending a counseling session.

Coach Lane Kiffin declined to comment.

According to an incident report on USC’s Department of Public Safety website, a student on April 15 “reported that an intoxicated student spat on her after she and a friend escorted him to his residence.” On May 3, a report was filed for an incident that occurred April 28 at the 901 Club. “A student reported that she was sexually assaulted by another student,” read the post.

The Department of Public Safety does not list names on its website, but Tyler acknowledged that those were the incidents in question.
