Josh Shaw’s heroic act of saving his nephew from drowning in a swimming pool drew praise on Twitter from USC teammates, former Trojans players and opposing coaches.

Shaw suffered ankle injuries when he leaped from a second-story balcony and landed on cement before crawling into the pool. USC said he would be sidelined indefinitely.

The Trojans open the season Saturday against Fresno State.

“Incredible courage and love shown by Josh Shaw,” Fresno State Coach Tim DeRuyter wrote. “He’s in our prayers for a speedy recovery. Impressed by his character!”

And from former Trojans defensive back Terrell Thomas: “Respect to Josh Shaw on saving his nephew from drowning. Just like a Trojan.”
