State fishing championships set for May 18
For the high school students who don’t think they are tall enough for basketball, fast enough for track or tough enough for football, how about competing for the state championship in fishing?
It’s set for May 18 at Russo’s Marina, 3995 Willow Road, Bethel Island, Calif.
Teams made up of between 30 and 80 high school anglers try to land the five biggest bass in a bid for a state champonship.
You have to be a member of the Student Angler Association of the Bass Federation to participate. That’s the only requirement.
Here’s the link to register for the competition. Registration can happen up to the morning of the event. Information: 580-716-4251. The event starts at 6 a.m. and the weigh in is at 5 p.m.
We’ll see if St. John Bosco or Chaminade want to add to their collection of state championships for the 2013-14 school year.
