Designers Kelly LaPlante, James Saavedra team up to create eco-furnishings line jak
For designer Kelly LaPlante, being green isn’t black or white.
“I try to offer my clients materials that are organic and sustainable, but I’m not an eco-Nazi,” says the author of the newly self-published “Ecologique: The Style of Sustainable Design.” LaPlante recently teamed with interior designer James Saavedra to produce jak, a line of upholstered furniture and accent tables that merge Art Deco silhouettes with Hollywood Regency glamour. Pieces such as the Mowry dining chair (shown above, $2,438 plus fabric) are framed in responsibly forested wood and can be finished in a water-based gloss. Customers can provide their own fabric or order from the selection of organic and recycled materials available through LaPlante’s showroom, 1501 Main St., Venice.
