For fans, MLB All-Star fest in San Diego offers chance to hang with the greats

Baseball fans looking for a special summer escape should put Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game on their July calendars. And even if you can’t make the July 12 game, there are fan fests, autograph sessions and skill clinics on the weekend leading up to it. All in all, it adds up to a fine mid-summer festivus.

The FanFest at the San Diego Convention Center opens Friday, July 8, and runs through July 12, a Tuesday. More than 40 attractions will be featured, including autograph areas (schedule below), a World Series trophy and exhibits from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Beyond admission, concessions and memorabilia are the only additional costs.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $30 for children 12 and younger, senior citizens and military personnel. Children 2 and younger are admitted free. FanFest tickets are sold on a timed-entry basis, so fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early to get preferred entry times.
