Carlsbad: Legoland California snaps together ‘Lego Movie’ attraction

Legoland California Resort in Carlsbad will build on the big buzz over “The Lego Movie” by opening a new movie set attraction with models of characters and scenes taken from the film.
More than 3 million Legos were used to create the Lego Movie Experience, which debuts Thursday only at the California venue of the plastic-brick empire.
The film that opened Feb. 7 used virtual Legos, of course, but model makers from the California theme park went to Warner Bros. to create Lego models that inspired some scenes of the film. In the new attraction, visitors step onto a sound stage while interviews with actors and clips from the movie play.
Re-creations of landmarks in the film -- the Octan Tower, Space Ship and Old West -- will be on display. And kids can meet costumed characters Emmet Brickowski and Wyldstyle, who will be roving the area too.
The 3-D movie tells the story of construction worker Emmet who joins forces with a bunch of strangers to stop an evil tyrant. Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell (as bad guy Lord Business), Will Arnett, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman are among the actors whose voices have brought the film to life.
The “Lego Movie” this week topped the box office for the second straight week. The Movie Experience will remain at the park indefinitely and is included in the ticket price.
