A message for fliers

Here’s another way to kill time at LAX and LA/Ontario airports: Surf the Internet on your wireless device. These airports now offer WiFi in public areas, including ticket counters, baggage claim, boarding gates and restaurants. You need to either have a T-Mobile Hotspot account or pay for temporary access, which costs $9.99 for 24 hours or $6 an hour plus 10 cents for each minute after one hour. For details: (877) 822-7768 or www.t-mobile.com/hotspot.

Road warriors

Long before Hummers, SUVs and RVs roamed the Earth, there was Bambi, the compact “tin can” Airstream trailer whose tires first touched asphalt in 1960. Now, this silver road warrior sits in the lobby of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where it has been elevated to a work of art. “On the Road” features the newly acquired trailer and automobile posters from the museum’s collection. The Airstream Bambi Travel Trailer joins six others in MoMA’s collection: a Cisitalia “202” GT (1946), a Willys-Overland Jeep (1953), a Volkswagen Beetle (1959), a Jaguar E-type Roadster (1963), a Ferrari Formula 1 racing car 641/2 (1990) and a Smart Car (2002). The exhibit runs through Nov. 12. Info: (212) 708-9400; www.moma.org.

Magical points

Redeeming frequent-guest points for hotel stays is so last year. Now you can get a photo op with your favorite star, VIP seats at a Super Bowl concert or a chance to watch Gwen Stefani rehearse her show. “People are interested in once-in-a-lifetime experiences,” said Robin Korman, vice president of loyalty marketing for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. And that’s what Starwood, which runs Sheraton, Westin and other chains, aims to provide with its new Moments auctions. By visiting www.spg.com/moments, members of the Starwood Preferred Guest program can use their points to bid. The highest bid so far went to a Super Bowl XLI package that included 50-yard-line seats for February’s game and an invitation to the rookie of the year party. It went for 552,500 points — enough for 52 hotel stays.
