Solvang, California’s Winterfest

Solvang, California’s little piece of Scandinavia, cranks up the European-village atmosphere during Winterfest. Among highlights of the monthlong event: a Nov. 30 tree-lighting ceremony in Solvang Park, with music, caroling and Santa. Local businesses will offer free cookies and cider. St. Nick sticks around for the Dec. 1 parade, with Danish dancing and music. A Dec. 8 Nativity pageant will be narrated by Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and accompanied by a choir.
When, where: Nov. 30 to Jan. 1 at various locations in Solvang.
