On Feb. 6 California will celebrate the first Ronald Reagan Day, courtesy of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who signed it into law last year. That date that marks the former president’s birth date and what this year would have been his 100th birthday.

The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in Riverside is offering two packages during February that will honor the former president, California governor and actor who in 1952 spent the first night of his honeymoon with his wife Nancy at the historic hotel. Each package comes with two passes to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley, Calif.

The deal: The Great American Package, which starts at $229 per night plus tax, includes a room; $50 credit at the inn’s restaurants, lounges or spa; and free valet parking. This package can be booked online or by phone.

When: Good Tuesday through Feb. 28.

Tested: I went online and found a room for $229 per night plus tax for Feb. 12 to 14. The same room on the same dates usually costs $190 a night. With the extras -- two Reagan library passes ($12 each), valet parking ($15 per night) and $50 credit at the inn -- the package saves you $50 or nearly 18%, providing that you use the credit.

The splurge: A different special, the Reagan Honeymoon Package, includes a night in the splashy Alhambra Suite, the very one where Nancy and Ron stayed. The package includes a $200 credit at Duane’s Prime Steaks and Seafood at the inn, a couples massage at the spa and free valet parking. It costs $1,199 plus tax and can be reserved by phone only.
