Try something new over Fourth of July or during the 405 Freeway shutdown the following weekend. A new zip-line tour in the San Gabriel Mountains will open Friday in Wrightwood with an inaugural ticket discount until mid-July.

The deal: Navitat Canopy Adventures is offering a 20% discount for zip-line tours that usually cost $109 for adults and $99 for kids, including tax. The tours, which last more than three hours, are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Nov. 30.

Check out the video on the website to get an idea of what the up-in-the-air tours are like. Participants zip along a tour on 10 lines at a heights up to 300 feet above the Angeles National Forest and cross “sky” bridges as well, according to the website.

The zip-line course is at the Wrightwood Guest Ranch, a 300-acre spread nearly 80 miles north of downtown L.A. that also offers horseback riding and horse pack trips.

When: The discount is good for tours from Friday to July 17.

Tested: I called Monday to see if this deal would work for the coming holiday weekend and found availability for two spots on the Fourth of July at 4 p.m. and two spots on Sunday at 10 a.m. Tickets for both tours qualify for the discount. Reservations also can be made online. (Availability may change.)
