San Francisco: Red and White Fleet uncorks a wine-tasting cruise
What could surpass watching the sun set while cruising San Francisco Bay? Chasing your cruise with a wine tasting.
Red and White Fleet’s new three-hour Treasure Island Wine Cruise will set sail May 13. The cruise offers views of downtown San Francisco, Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge before docking at Treasure Island for a cable car sightseeing tour of the island that stops at Vista Point for an hour of wine tasting at the Winery SF.
Guests may sample up to eight wines (red and white) complemented by artisanal cheeses and a barrel tasting of a reserve wine (usually red). Visitors can see the winemaking process first-hand in the 20,000-square-foot winemaking facility while sampling Bryan Kane’s boutique wines that blend North Coast (Napa, Sonoma, etc.) varietals and include the labels of Sol Rouge, the Winery SF and Vie.
Treasure Island was once the site of the Golden Gate International Exposition and the Winery SF has several film and TV credits including “Phenomenon” and “Flubber” as well as the long-running TV series “Nash Bridges.”
Besides the May 13 cruise, the Treasure Island Wine Cruise will depart from Pier 43½ at 6:30 p.m. on June 9 and 10; July 14 and 15; Aug. 11 and 12; Sept. 15 and 16; Oct. 13 and 14; and Nov. 10 and 11. The cost is $88.
Tested: Online and by phone, the cruise appears to be widely available. The Red and White Fleet reservation booker, however, recommends booking well in advance because the Treasure Island Wine Cruise is limited to 100.
