Luggage to the stars: JetBlue auctions off celebrity baggage and airline tickets for charity
Want a fur pouch messenger bag from Weird Al Yankovich or a briefcase signed by Donald Trump? Celebrity luggage and baggage went on the auction block Tuesday in a special sale aimed at raising money for charity and sponsored by JetBlue Airways.
More than 50 celebrities, from actors to athletes and designers, donated items for the airline to sell. Two round-trip tickets on JetBlue come tucked inside the luggage too. Bidding on items in the Celebrity Baggage Auction started Tuesday on Ebay and will continue until Monday. As always, the highest bidder wins.
Designer Diane Von Furstenberg, actresses Lindsay Lohan and Molly Ringwald, Miss Universe and TV personality Melissa Rivers are among those whose luggage and bags are currently listed.
JetBlue plans a second auction starting Tuesday and ending June 6 that includes items from singers Taylor Swift and Ted Nugent and entertainer Ryan Seacrest.
Prices vary by item. Earlier this week, a black leather bag signed by Von Furstenberg had been bid up to $505. And Trump’s briefcase from Zero Halliburton plus VIP tickets to the Miss USA Pageant had reached $405. You can also enter a contest to win a celebrity’s bag on the airline’s Facebook page.
The proceeds from both auctions go to DoSomething.org, a nonprofit organization that connects volunteers with giving opportunities and funds grants to community doers.
