W Los Angeles treats stressed-out UCLA students to $199 escape

Here’s a stress-busting idea for UCLA students that involves more than a study break at Starbucks: spending a night at the nearby W Los Angeles-Westwood. The hotel at 930 Hilgard Ave. offers Bruins a chance to escape the library and the campus with weekend suites discounted as low as $199 a night. There’s free in-room movie and popcorn too.
The deal: The Night Without Roommates package features suites with separate living room and sofa starting at $199 a night plus tax. It’s meant to be a one-person getaway, but the same rate applies for two (I checked online). The deal is good for UCLA students and their parents and friends as well as alumni; Bruin ID card required upon check-in.
When: The offer is good for stays Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 30.
Tested: I found the UCLA discount available Nov. 10 and 11 for Veterans Day weekend for a suite with a queen-sized bed. The same room on the same night without the deal would cost $249 a night plus tax.
