Las Vegas: Let the Super Bowl party planning begin

Now that the teams have been decided for Super Bowl XLVII, it’s time to nail down plans on watching the big game. Las Vegas will be jumping, with nearly every hotel and bar along the Strip offering drink specials. Here’s a sampling:

Fans willing to dig deeper into their pockets can even party in their own “man caves” or in their hotel rooms, with specials created for the big day.

Scores of bars and restaurants are planning Super Sunday packages. The new Rockhouse in the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian will have a premium open bar. From kickoff until the final whistle blows, guests can enjoy unlimited booze for $100 ($60 for Las Vegas locals). The game will be displayed on 80 high-def TVs.

At Cabo Wabo Cantina, at the North Miracle Mile shops entrance on the Strip, a hundred bucks buys not only an open, all-you-can-drink bar (from a limited list), but a buffet too. Folks who insist on a certain type of beer or tequila can upgrade to a “full” open bar for $50 more.

Feb. 3 will see the return of unique man caves to Caesars Palace. The “caves,” which can seat up to eight guests, are built inside a poker room. Each contains four 47-inch HD screens, video games and leather couches, with private betting windows nearby. An upscale buffet and unlimited Miller Lite, Coors Light and house wines are included.

Six people can reserve a cave for $1,500, excluding tax and tip. Up to two more guests can be added at an extra $200 a person.

Those who crave even more privacy may want to check in at the Mirage. The room service cooks have created a special Super Bowl menu.

The “combo” serves six to eight and is priced at $275. It includes tailgate-type food and drink, including chicken fingers, pizzas, a 2-foot-long sub, chips, pretzels and, of course, beer.
