Budget carrier Allegiant Air will operate between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Honolulu (HNL) starting Oct. 30 with $99 fares each way for a limited time.

The deal: The $99 one-way fares are real, but note that Allegiant charges fees for baggage, carry-on luggage and other amenities that could increase the cost .

Some examples: Expect to pay $14.99 to $35 per bag for a first and second checked bag if you book in advance. Those fees increase to $50 or $75 a bag if you pay at the airport.

A rolling carry-on bag (not a personal item like a purse or small backpack) will cost $10 to $35 if booked in advance; $35 to $75 if you wait until you get to the airport. Here’s a list of Allegiant’s fees; review them before you buy.

When: The offer is good for travel now through Feb. 12 but must be purchased by Sunday.

Tested: I found availability for one-way fares of $95.99 departing Jan. 16 and returning on Jan. 22. I found more common prices of $149.99 each way, still a good deal for LAX-Hawaii.

One more thing about Allegiant’s pricing: When I checked online, Allegiant displayed two final prices for a ticket, including tax: $191.98 for debit card users, $199.98 for credit card users. If you have luggage of any kind or plan to choose your own seat, that price will increase.
