Canada: Spring spurs cyclists, skaters and others to hit the trail

Share

As warmer weather arrives in Edmonton, Canada, locals and visitors take to the city’s extensive trail system, hoping to make the most of the relatively short summer season in the provincial capital.

Edmonton, the capital of Alberta province, boasts more than 100 miles of trails, many of them along North Saskatchewan River, which winds through the city. Warming temperatures bring bicyclists, dog walkers, inline skaters and runners who have come out of hibernation and onto the trails.

A unique way to enjoy the paths is by Segway. River Valley Adventure Co. offers a variety of guided tours from its base adjacent to Louise McKinney Riverfront Park.

Tours are priced according to length. The one-hour tour costs about $50.

In an effort to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors year-round, the company began offering winter tours for the first time during the recently concluded season. Snow tires were mounted on the Segways to provide added traction.

For the less adventurous, the company also rents bicycles.
