El Niño is strengthening

Sea temperatures along the equator are increasingly above normal, creating perfect conditions for El Niño. Forecasters are highly confident that this year’s El Niño will continue through the latter part of the year.

As temperatures continue
to rise, a weak to moderate
El Niño is established.

Warmer temperatures begin
to expand along the equator.
