TCA Award winners include ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Good Wife,’ ‘Orange,’ ‘Veep’

“Breaking Bad” was the big winner Saturday at the 30th Annual Television Critics Assn. Awards at the Beverly Hilton.

For the second (and presumably last) time in a row, the AMC series was named program of the year. The program had its finale in September, prompting star Bryan Cranston to joke that perhaps TCA “should create the category of newly departed show.”

Meanwhile “The Good Wife,” snubbed at the Emmys, won the prize for outstanding achievement in drama.

HBO was the most-winning network, taking home three of 12 prizes. Oscar winner and Emmy nominee Matthew McConaughey was honored with the award for individual achievement in drama for his portrayal of Rustin Cohle in “True Detective.” “I’m gonna miss that guy,” he said of the character.

Accepting the outstanding achievement in comedy award for “Veep,” creator Armando Iannucci said it was “a privilege to be a part of HBO in this era, which will be known as the pre-Murdoch era,” a reference to Rupert Murdoch’s efforts to buy the network’s parent company, Time Warner.

The Television Critics Assn. is a group of 220 professional television critics and reporters from the United States and Canada, and is currently holding its semi-annual press tour. The ceremony was hosted by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Terry Crews and featured a special appearance by Miss Piggy.
