Future concert at Roxy canceled after fans overwhelm part of Sunset Strip

A free concert by Future has been canceled after hundreds of fans flooded the Roxy nightclub, prompting a partial closure of Sunset Boulevard on Thursday afternoon.

For the last week, the rapper has been performing secret shows for fans to celebrate the release of his new album, “DS2,” with details announced the morning of each show.

His show in L.A. -- the last of his four-date “Salute the Fans” series -- was set for the Roxy on the famed Sunset Strip. After the location was tweeted Thursday morning, fans quickly flocked to the West Hollywood venue hoping to snag wristbands for the concert, which was scheduled for midnight.

About 700 fans eventually showed up to the venue, which has a capacity of 500, with many spilling out into the street in front of the club, according to reports.

Around 3 p.m., the West Hollywood station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced on Twitter that the stretch of the Strip between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard had been closed.

Nearly an hour later, the Roxy announced that the show had been canceled.

A rep for Future said the show was canceled because people who didn’t get wristbands were refusing to leave the premises. Photos and video uploaded to social media showed sheriff’s deputies with riot gear as fans poured into the middle of the street.

Authorities said that once the show had been canceled, the crowd dispersed calmly and Sunset was reopened to normal traffic.

Future launched his free concert series Monday in his native Atlanta, before traveling to Chicago and New York City.
