Bobby Brown gets real in new BET project

Get ready for Bobby Brown, the sequel.

The controversial R&B; singer is returning to the reality TV arena.

BET is preparing a new project with Brown, whose stormy marriage with late singer Whitney Houston was chronicled in his 2005 Bravo reality series “Being Bobby Brown.” Sources said the new series would revolve around Brown’s “life and businesses.”

The project with Brown, who is currently touring with the reunited New Edition, will be executive produced by James DuBose, who has developed several other celebrity-based reality shows for BET. One of his most high-profile series centered on Philadelphia Eagles star Michael Vick, who staged a comeback after being imprisoned for his involvement in a dogfighting ring.

Other specifics on the Brown project, including the title, airdates or the number of episodes, were not immediately available.

Brown, who has a long history of drug problems and run-ins with the law, reportedly told fans this week he was doing well after checking himself into rehab last month, less than six weeks following his marriage to second wife Alicia Etheredge in Hawaii. He checked himself out three weeks later, reports said.

Houston and Brown were married for 14 years, and he was criticized by many observers as being a key negative influence in Houston’s life and artistic fall from grace. The relationship was marked by drug abuse. Houston also accused Brown of abusing her, and won custody of their daughter Bobbi Kristina following their divorce in 2007.

The BET series is the second Houston-related reality show show to be developed after her death. Lifetime in May announced that the late singer’s family and closest associates would anchor a reality show. Also, Bobbi Kristina Brown has been cast in a recurring role on Tyler Perry’s “For Better or Worse” on TBS.
