Megyn Kelly: Election-night ratings crown her queen of cable news

Election night was very good for Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly.

The host of “The Kelly File” rounded up 2.9 million total viewers during her 9 p.m. Eastern time slot, according to Nielsen. That was around the time Fox and other news organizations called the Virginia governor’s race for Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe.

Kelly also beat everyone else on cable news in the key demographic of adults ages 25 to 54, with 654,000 viewers in that category. That was even more than “The O’Reilly Factor,” long cable news’ No. 1 show. Kelly outdelivered everyone else in her time slot combined. CNN’s Piers Morgan notched 239,000, while MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow scored 313,000.

Fox News launched a risky shake-up of its prime-time lineup a month ago, but it’s pretty much been a victory march since, with “Kelly File” quickly zooming to become the No. 2 show on cable news.

Meanwhile, CNN has continued to languish, despite a programming rejiggering of its own. The network recently relaunched its once-signature debate show “Crossfire,” only to watch it tumble in the ratings.
