It’s been almost a week since “Sharknado” blew onto basic cable and exploded social media. Now, with the announcement of a sequel in the works, the time has come to sit down with the man who wrote the original.

Screenwriter Thunder Levin will be here at 3 p.m. PDT talking about “Sharknado” and the phenomenon it spawned.

Levin has written and directed several so-called mockbusters, including “Atlantic Rim” and “AE: Apocalypse Earth” just this year. But “Sharknado,” which debuted on Syfy on Thursday, is in a class by itself. Celebrities as diverse as Patton Oswalt, Mia Farrow and Michael Chiklis all weighed in on the film.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” and “Lost” writer Damon Lindelof even stated he’d write the sequel to “Sharknado” before “Sharknado” was even done airing.

On Wednesday, Syfy confirmed that, yes, a sequel (or perhaps a prequel) is in the works, due in 2014. And just to make sure that they’re appealing to as broad an audience as possible, they revealed that the Sharknado will be terrorizing New York City this time.
