Bacon-infused bourbon, queso and fried chicken sliders at Ebanos Crossing

Share

At Ebanos Crossing, a new cocktail lounge downtown, they’re using house-made bacon-infused bourbon to make their old fashioned (known as the Ebanos Old Fashioned) with mezcal, agave, angostura bitters and a candied bacon garnish. It’s smoky, smooth and adds a silky richness to the drink, which, if you make it in during happy hour, is $7.

Happy hour, know as the Crossing Hour, is every Tuesday through Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. All cocktails are $7 (normally $12), wine is $6 a glass and beer is priced at $4 or $5.

The special libations include the Colt Neck Cobbler, with Laird’s apple brandy, sloe gin, lemon juice and blackberries. It’s a deep purple color and served over crushed ice. For whiskey lovers, there’s something called the Little Fatso, made with rye whiskey, dry vermouth, Campari and pamplemousse.

The lounge is broken up into four areas, each with its own distinct vibe. Once you enter through a walkway flanked by what looks like glowing-hot coals, head right to the main bar if you’re looking for a casual drink with a little friendly conversation with a bartender.

There are also two seating areas, one of them taken over by a DJ later on in the evening, and a private bar area with plush seats.

And, most important, there’s plenty of room to chow down. The rotating menu includes fresh oysters ($2 apiece); jerk chicken wings in rum sauce ($6); roasted figs with goat cheese, pepitas and lemon zest ($4); empanadas filled with ropa vieja, ($6); goat tacos with yogurt slaw and rosemary oil ($6); fried chicken sliders ($6); and a big bowl of queso made with blue cheese, white cheddar, pepperjack and poblano pepper ($4).
