All three ‘Jeopardy!’ contestants are completely stumped by football category [Video]

What is football?

That’s what the three contestants on Thursday’s episode of “Jeopardy!” might have been thinking while being quizzed on the country’s most popular sport.

Anyone who has ever been called a “dumb jock” needs to watch this clip.

As the first round of the game wound down, the final category left on the board was “Talkin’ Football.” And all three contestants — obviously very smart people, having already racked up several thousand dollars each — were stumped all five times.

None of them even attempted to offer a response to any clue, drawing the ridicule of host Alex Trebek.

Anybody at all familiar with football — which Ryan, Sara and Justin clearly were not — would have had no problem with at least the first four offerings in the category, which called for the contestants to identify descriptions of an option play, offsetting penalties, the Dallas Cowboys and a fair catch, the last of which Trebek helpfully demonstrated.

The last one was trickier, looking for the nickname of the defensive line that took the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowls in the late 1960s and ‘70s.

“If you guys ring in and get this one, I will die,” Trebrek said.

No one did. The correct response was, “Who are the Purple People Eaters?”

A football fan would have racked up a quick $3,000 for sweeping the category.

Not bad for a “dumb jock.”
