Driver of Ferrari killed in crash with Hyundai
The driver of a Ferrari was killed and his passenger was critically injured when the car was struck by a speeding Hyundai early Saturday in Monterey Park, police said.
The Ferrari was traveling at an appropriate speed in a 35-mph zone, but the Hyundai was moving “well above the posted speed limit,” said Monterey Park Police Lt. Scott Wiese.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of North New Street and East Garvey Avenue, Wiese said.
The driver of the Hyundai is under investigation on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and is being treated for a broken leg and other serious injuries, Wiese said.
The Ferrari driver was identified by coroner’s Lt. Joe Bale as 21-year-old Fu Duan of Temple City. He had recently purchased the car, Wiese said.
The names of his male passenger and the driver of the Hyundai were not released.
