A single-engine private airplane struck three other planes and then crashed into a hangar after its pilot lost control during takeoff at the Fullerton airport Wednesday night, officials said.

The plane, a Siai Marchetti SF-260, veered across the runway and hit the other planes before crashing into the hanger at the municipal airport on Commonwealth Avenue, the city said in a statement.

The pilot and co-pilot received minor injuries and were treated at the scene, according to the Fullerton Police Department. They declined to be taken to a hospital, officials said.

The “experienced pilot” was on a routine flight, city officials said. The aircraft is owned by Air Combat USA, a Fullerton-based air combat school.

The Siai Marchetti SF-260 is a highly maneuverable Italian-designed aircraft, capable of precision aerobatics, that is regularly used in military training.

Fire officials told reporters that the crash narrowly missed hitting a large fuel tank on the property.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will investigate, officials said.
