Baseball: Junior catcher Rece Reagan comes through for Alemany [Video]

He gets two-run double in 9-5 win over Thousand Oaks

With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, junior catcher Rece Reagan launched a 3-and-2 pitch to deep left field for a two-run double, helping ignite Alemany to a 9-5 victory over Thousand Oaks on Wednesday.

Reagan finished with two hits and also was impressive behind the plate in support of pitcher Brandon Ponticelli, who allowed one run in six innings. Ruben Cardenas, one of the top hitters in the Mission League last season as a sophomore, had two line-drive singles. Alex Mckenna had a home run over the right-field fence.

Mission Viejo improved to 2-0 behind San Diego State-bound Stephen Young, who threw a one-hitter in the Diablos’ 1-0 win over Downey. Hunter Remington had a walk-off single in the seventh. Other Edison tournament games: Edison 8, Dana Hills 1; Trabuco Hills 6, Laguna Hills 5 in nine innings; San Clemente 11, Covina 0; Tesoro 3, Millikan 0.

West Ranch’s Jake Bird, a recent UCLA commit, struck out eight and had a no-hitter for 6 2/3 innings in West Ranch’s 8-0 win over Birmingham. Jagger Rusconi had three hits and Addison Jackson and Jake Spurlin added two apiece.

Buena (2-0) got another strong pitching performance to defeat Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 2-0. Austin Rubbick threw the complete game, giving up three hits. Bryson Wallet had two hits. Notre Dame’s Tommy Wilson struck out eight in five innings.

Wyatt Shackleford threw a three-hitter and Shane Timmons hit a two-run home run in Capistrano Valley’s 5-0 win over Long Beach Wilson.

Marquis Jackson threw a one-hitter and also hit a two-run home run in San Fernando’s 5-0 win over Santa Monica.

Mira Costa (2-0) defeated Firebaugh, 7-0. Greg Whitaker threw a perfect game, striking out eight while also getting two hits and two RBIs.

Thomas Ponticelli struck out 10 in six innings in Newbury Park’s 5-0 win over Sun Valley Poly. Royal defeated Eastside, 20-0. Brandon Grimes had three hits.

Canyon Country Canyon defeated St. Bonaventure, 7-3. Shortstop Jason Rowe had three hits and four RBIs. Hoover defeated Granada Hills, 4-3. Luis Zamora had two hits and two RBIs. Ventura defeated Granada Hills Kennedy, 2-1, in nine innings. Alex Carbajal had two hits for Kennedy.

Jayson Newman had three hits, including two home runs and eight RBIs, and Matthew Parent allowed two runs in five innings in Taft’s 12-2 win over Palisades. Jesse Hanckel hit a two-run home run in Village Christian’s 2-1 win over Verdugo Hills.

Sophomore Kyle Cuellar had three hits and four RBIs and sophomore Brandon Jenkins threw six shutout innings in La Salle’s 14-1 win over Diamond Bar.

Josh Smith struck out 11 in Etiwanda’s 3-0 win over Fullerton. Malibu defeated Viewpoint, 10-5. Chase Lambert and Dylan Ross each had three hits. Bronson Bard had four RBIs.

Sierra Canyon (2-0) defeated Lawndale, 8-7. Jake Fried, in his first game since playing for the soccer team, went two for four with two RBIs. Heritage Christian defeated Desert Christian, 9-6. Anthony Aragon and Colin Adams each had two hits.
