Keith Thurman-Danny Garcia welterweight unification set for March 4
Unbeaten welterweight champions Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia are headed to a March 4 title-unification clash on Showtime or CBS, the networks announced Tuesday.
Showtime also announced other upcoming bouts, including the Jan. 28 featherweight-title rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas, and a two-title doubleheader led by featherweights Abner Mares-Jesus Cuellar Dec. 10 at Galen Center.
Thurman (27-0, 22 knockouts), of Florida, successfully defended his World Boxing Assn. title with a unanimous decision against Shawn Porter in June. Philadelphia’s World Boxing Council champion Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) has previously defeated the likes of Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse and Robert Garcia.
Garcia has a tuneup bout scheduled in November against Samuel Vargas.
Showtime will also televise a Jan. 14 super-middleweight title bout between WBC champion Badou Jack and James DeGale, and a Feb. 11 bout between former champion Adrien Broner and Adrian Granados.
